VINCENT DE PIO
Vincent de Pio is the son of Gig de Pio, from whom the young artist must have inherited his artistic prowess. Exposed to the painting craft at a young age and being exposed to his father’s work right in his studio, de Pio was bound to become an artist in his own time. Thanks to his father’s encouragement and support, there was no stopping the budding painter from pursuing his dream.
Having associated with other budding talents and mentored by the more senior painters, de Pio has taken keen interest in the painter’s craft, from on-the-spiot sketching sessions to landscape and portraiture, a skill he picked up from his own father. Add to that his own precocious interest in weaning himself of undue influences, de Pio has finally evolved a style that is most distinctive.
De Pio has painted many figurative subjects, mostly of men at work, like those who engage in fishing, farming and other familiar chores of the working folk. What sets de Pio apart is his obsession with depicting the hardy stock of his subject, evident in their hefty physiognomy and steel-like strength. The other side of the artist also reveals a soft touch with still life and landscape, though he has displayed an uncanny skill with the human figure at such a young age.
Recently, he has been captivated by classical music and fine art particularly ballet. Inspired by expressionism, his current works on women playing the cello were sold-out at a recent exhibit in Manila. |
