INTERNATIONAL FILIPINO ART GALLERY OPENS IN SINGAPORE

The Regent of Singapore, Galerie Joaquin (Singapore) Pte. Ltd., opened its doors yesterday, December 8.

This move was encouraged by the recent successes of Filipino artists in international auctions such as Sotheby's in Singapore and Christie's in Hong Kong.

The Gallery is dedicated primarily to the purpose of doing its share in making Filipino art available internationally.

Galerie Joaquin carries works of several leading Filipino artists – National Artists Arturo Luz, HR Ocampo and Philippine Presidential Medal of Merit awardees Juvenal Sanso, Nena Saguil and Federico Aguilar Alcuaz; Mario Parial, Lydia Velasco, Ramon Orlina, Carlo Magno – who have been selected for inclusion in these auctions.

Together with some Singaporean resident investors and British nationals, Galerie Joaquin Pte Ltd. hopes to make a collectors' haven where art aficionados can find museum-quality artworks by Filipino artists.

"As Singapore has become the regional financial and business center for many companies, the decision to put up a Galerie Joaquin Singapore is both timely and auspicious," says Mike Magee, country manager, Galerie Joaquin Singapore.

The gallery was able to find an ideal and suitable location at the Regent of Singapore, the same place where Sotheby's holds office and conducts its biannual auction of Southeast Asian paintings.

The opening of Galerie Joaquin Singapore is an opportunity to present not only Filipino masters but also up and coming artists to the international art scene.

Galerie Joaquin also presented works by young artists Dominic Rubio, Eufemio Rasco IV, Vincent de Pio, Jerry Morada, Bayani Ray Acala, Karina Baluyut, Amador Barquilla and Joey Ibay.
