RARE ALCUAZ WORKS AT SINGAPORE SHOW
Opens Friday, 7 December 2007 at Galerie Joaquin Singapore

Rare works from the artist’s early period will be on exhibit in “Federico Aguilar Alcuaz”, the 1st anniversary show at Galerie Joaquin Singapore. The show which opens Friday, December 7 at 7 p.m. will include 10 oil on canvas works and 10 works in mixed media or watercolor. The artworks are sourced from collectors in Europe and from the artist’s family, these being some of the best from the artist’s oeuvre. Several of them cover the period of the mid 60’s to the late 70’s, the period when some of the most exciting Alcuaz works were produced.

The show is made more timely with the recent unprecedented record prices received by Alcuaz in the past Sotheby’s (September 2007 in Singapore) and most recently, the November 25, 2007 Christie’s auction in Hong Kong. Alcuaz’s “Tres Marias” sold at HK$ 271,000 or P 1,490,000 or 9 times above the minimum estimate while the work “Still Life with Landscape” sold at 5 times its minimum estimate at HK$ 112,500 or P 618,750.

Included in the show is the 31 ½” x 39 ¼ “ oil on canvas piece titled “Still Life with Cups and Lemons” as well as the 30 “ x 24 ½ “ painting titled “Still Life with Lemons, Berries and Jars”. There is also the 23 ½ “ x 28 ½ “ 1976 work titled “Evening View from the Artist’s Window” and seven other oil on canvas works.

There are also several paintings that are book pieces having been featured in the definitive book on Alcuaz titled “Parallel Texts” written by Rod Paras Perez. Featured also are rare watercolor pieces such as the painting “Manila 1968” and “Manila 1968 II” as well as paintings on Wiesbaden, Germany.
