MALAYA
To mark the 111th anniversary of Philippine Independence, Galerie Joaquin Singapore presents a group show that celebrates what it means to be free.
The six featured artists, including celebrated contemporary talents Lydia Velasco and Jaspher Penuliar, vary greatly in both style and subject matter. Each of their artworks, in turn, approaches the theme differently. Penuliar employs his beautifully delicate brushwork to interpret "freedom" quite literally, with the image of a birdcage evoking ideas of social confinement. Velasco, on the other hand, chooses a broader definition of the theme to celebrate artistic freedom by capturing one of her favourite concepts - the freedom gained from communing with nature. |
