Buensuceso Launches Wearable Art

Art meets high fashion in artist Jinggoy Buensuceso’s sculptural modernist jewelry that echo his deft artistry and keen eye for style. Known for his contemporary pieces and brave use of metal as canvas, Buensuceso expresses himself and his art differently but boldly through his debut wearable art collection that will be exhibited at the Galerie Joaquin Singapore in January.

Entitled "Mutya" by Buencuseso, the 30-piece collection of handmade, one-of-a-kind rings, cuffs and neck pieces is a tribute to the muses of our lives. Each unique piece, lovingly crafted and conceptualized by the artist, represents an attribute in women that is greatly admired and worth emulating.

A dramatic neckpiece that's composed of hammered, stamped and burnt metal discs, for example, is aptly named 'Infinite Inspirations'. "I liken my muse to a drop of water that results in ripple effects that intensely spread out to create different images, thoughts or emotions that provide infinite inspirations," said Buensuceso. "The water ripples until it is calm and waits for another drop of water to create yet another set of ripples," he added.

After exhibiting his art pieces successfully (read: red dots) in New York, Singapore and the Philippines, Buensuceso decided to venture into wearable art at the prompting of his wife, his source of infinite inspirations and to whom this collection is named after. "It started as a fortunate accident. I wanted to design something unique for my wife’s engagement ring, so I set about creating and executing my own design. Viewed from a certain angle, the ring is shaped like a heart" he said. This was soon followed by a wedding ring, cuffs and necklaces, not just for Mutya but also for their discerning group of friends who asked that Buensuceso create more pieces.

Forward to today: the artist is set to unveil his first wearable art collection to meet the demands of his already growing group of fans. Click here to view the artist's profile.

Mutya by Buensuceso will be on exhibit at the Galerie Joaquin Singapore from January 29 to February 13, 2010.
